I am writing to you as one of the moderators of the Breton-language Wikipedia. I do not speak in the name of any individual user nor am I replyng in any offically mandated capacity. I have already made my personal feelings clear at the Breton Village Pump (An darvarn) on the question of cross-project requests fro translations of articles of the kind you recently sent out to users on the Breton-language Wikipedia, but as my remarks were in Breton I shall provide a brief summary in English: while I do personally find this kind of request tedious, to the extent that should any of the users have been interested in in the subject requested they would probbaly have writen an article on the subject moved by their own initiative anyway, and to that effect I have posted a permanent warning stating that any such requests placed on my personal page will be immediately removed, and can therefore sympahtise with the users who have complained and/or at least expressed their surprise upon receiveing requests of this sort (the latest from you), I do not see that such requests actually violate any Wikipedia principles, either generally or specifically agreed on the bReton-language version and as such are not sanctionable. I do not believ that this activity can legitimately be described as "vandalism" in the sense that it neither wantonly destroys nor otherwise modifies existing articles or accounts nor does it create spoof articles, etc. Howver, I do believe that it can be considered "spam" in as much as it is massive cross-project mailing of unsollicited messages on topic not discussed at the Wikipedia in question. As I have said, one the one hand I have already made it clear that recepients of this kind of request (be they religious, about villages in poland or whatever) are free to ignore the, reply to the sender stating their unwillingness to collaborate and/or at the same time expressing their reasons and their desire to receive no further request of the same nature, or indeed to reply to them and to carry out the reqest to the best of their ability. I do not support uncivilness on the Wikipedia and have not read any rplies by any users on the Breton-language Wikiepdia that you may have received and which I am not, of course, answerable for, howver, havibng received sevel such requests on a semi-reguar bais at one time or another, I do sympahise with any users who do find receiving such material tedious and sistracting and choose to reply to the sender to express their feelings on the matters. Your account will be renamed
[kemmañ ar vammenn]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Jose77. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Jose77~brwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
