The range shown across the front of the court was in fact never constructed: "This picture does not show the remains and ruins of the old College buildings (a sight too ugly to appear as a picture among the other Colleges of this University), but only the buildings recently set up, as well as those which, to-day only planned, will be actually constructed. For the intention is that Patrons of Letters may see what kind of work this of theirs will be at last when finished, which carried solely by their own generosity to this point, now remains to be completed."
