English: Photo of the cafe of the Murray Hill Hotel after a dynamite accident in 1902. It happened during the excavation for subway tunnels. The hotel suffered extensive damage; five people were killed by the blast-three of them at the Murray Hill Hotel. Many were also injured as a result of the accident. The photo, on page 90, was published in the February 8, 1902 edition of Sicentific American. The Murray Hill Hotel was built in 1884 and razed in 1945.
This is a copy of the page the photo was taken from. The date and "Scientific American" can be read at the top of the page. Those who are not in the US may not be able to fully view the copy of the magazine at Google or at HathiTrust. Both sites resolve IPs as "gatekeeping" procedures.
